Solicited Papers

Five types of papers are of interest and will be reviewed by ICWOAL’14 technical program committee:

  • Research papers reporting on new trends and developments. Two categories of research papers are solicited: Regular papers and Work-in-Progress papers. WIP papers describe research that has not yet produced the results required for a regular paper, but that due its novelty and potential impact deserves to be shared with the community at an early stage
  • Application papers reporting on academia developments of theory, technologies, products, services, systems and solutions
  • Performance evaluation and experimentation papers reporting on experiments, existing solutions, schemes, algorithms and technologies
  • Tutorial and survey papers
  • Industry practice papers presenting the results of industry research projects.

All papers are limited to 6 double column pages with the exception of Work-in-progress papers, which  are limited to 4 double column pages. Font must be no smaller than 10-points.
An extra page fee of $50 for each page (up to two additional pages) will apply to any camera-ready version exceeding the page limit.

Work-in-Progress papers

Contributors will be asked to give a 10min presentation of their work and to prepare a poster for the discussion forum that will be held after the presentations.

Industry practice papers

Industry practice papers are focused on presenting the results of industry research projects. The main objective of industry practice presentations is to increase interactions between conference attendees and industry. An industry practice presentation may use physical models, computer displays, printed material (i.e. posters) or any combination of the above. Industry practice sessions offer the opportunity to communicate practical results to the academic community by using interactive (simulations and/or movies) using the possibility of presenting real experiments, simulations of real experiments, movies of real experiments, software demonstration, software test, etc.

IEEE Paper formatting guidelines and specifications

The language of the conference is English.
All submissions will be handled electronically through the EDAS system website. Papers sent by email are not accepted.

All final papers submitted for inclusion in IEEE Xplore must adhere to the IEEE Xplore PDF specification for compatibility.
IEEE PDF eXpress is a free service, allowing their authors to make IEEE Xplore-compatible PDFs (Conversion function) or to check PDFs that authors have made themselves for IEEE Xplore compatibility (PDF Check function).

1. Prepare Final Manuscript

  • The camera-ready is due by October 20, 2014.
  • Please take into consideration the reviewers' comments when preparing your final manuscript.
  • Please follow carefully the instructions about the formatting specifications for IEEE Xplore compliance (See IEEE paper formatting guidelines and paper templates given above).
  • Pages must not be numbered (page numbers will be included by proceedings editor)
  • Each regular paper is allowed a maximum of 6 pages (plus 2-extra chargeable pages over the 6-page limit).
  • WIP/Workshop papers are allowed a maximum of 4 pages (plus 2-extra chargeable pages over the 4-page limit).
  • Please insert the appropriate copyright code notice on the bottom of the first page of your paper.
    • For papers in which all authors are employed by the US government, the copyright notice is: U.S. Government work not protected by U.S. copyright
    • For papers in which all authors are employed by a Crown government (UK, Canada, and Australia), the copyright notice is: 978-1-4799-5739-2/14/$31.00 ©2014 Crown
    • For all other papers the copyright notice is: 978-1-4799-5739-2/14/$31.00 ©2014 IEEE

2. Generate the Electronic Version of the Final Manuscript

  • Authors must generate the final version in PDF format using the IEEE PDF eXpress web tool. (IEEE Xplore will reject all PDF files generated by means of other tools.)
  • To generate the IEEE Xplore compatible PDF file of your paper, follow these steps:
    • Go to: http://www.pdf-express.org
    • If you have a user ID already enter it now along with the conference ID: 34259X
    • If you are a first time user, follow the link to 'New Users – Click here'. Please note that in order to access the service you need to allow the use of cookies from the PDF eXpress web site.
    • Once you have registered as a new user, upload the source file containing your paper for conversion.
    • IEEE eXplore will convert the file for you and email it back to you. This may take sometime.

3. Upload the Final PDF File

  • The Final version of your paper must be submitted by October 20, 2014 to be included in the conference record.
  • Once you receive your eXplore-compatible PDF file, then,
    • 1. Send a copy to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it , and
    • 2. Upload a copy on the EDAS system (this is achieved by updating the paper version available on EDAS system).

4. Submit IEEE Copyright Transfer Form through EDAS

  • The IEEE is enforcing strict copyright rules and your paper cannot be published without submitting a copyright transfer form.
  • For your convenience, the copyright is made available electronically through EDAS (see 'My Papers', then "Copyright" located next to your submitted paper).
  • Please, complete and submit electronically your copyright form.
  • Authors who are not authorized to sign a copyright transfer form should:
    • Download the paper version of a copyright transfer form, fill it in, and ask an authorized person to sign it.
    • Send a scanned copy of the signed copyright transfer form to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it by October 20, 2014.
